The Organic Difference...

We believe that when you make the choice to eat organic, you understand that your health is directly connected to the food you eat. That's a big understanding, and it's a very easy concept, but even though you might say "I know that," you still... might not know what we're talking about. You might get your "5 a day" in fruits and veggies, but if the fruits and veggies you're eating make the list of the highest crops sprayed with pesticides (and you don't know what they are)... you've got something to learn. Try as you might to thoroughly wash and clean your produce, you'll never completely eliminate all the trace amounts of pesticide residue. These trace amounts eventually pile upon additional trace amounts and soon you've got a pile of pesticide residue within your body (now isn't that a happy thought, but it's true).

Organic Farmers don't use "shortcuts" to increase their yields. For a farmer to choose to farm organically, means an extensive amount of work... and cost, but that farmer is committed to bringing you the freshest, cleanest product they can produce. For crops... this means no pesticides, no chemical fertilizers, or no genetically modified crops. For livestock it means... no antibiotics, no growth hormones, and that animals are allowed to graze or roam freely throughout a certain amount of open space.

Here are 7 reasons we think you should be eating organic.

1) It's Healthier... research typically shows higher levels of antioxidants, vitamins & minerals in organic foods.

2) No Pesticides... There are over 400 chemical pesticides routinely used in conventional farming with residues making their way to your plate. Click here for a downloadable report that lists the most highly sprayed fruits and vegetables.

3) No GM Crops... "Frankencrops" (Genetically modified) are not permitted... they're not allowed in Europe (why are they allowed here?)

4) No Growth Hormones or Antibiotics... when animals traditionally get sick, they're shot up with antibiotics that speed up their recovery so they can get back into production (think cows & milking - and those antibiotics end up in the milk you drink)... the same for growth hormones (there's a hormone typically fed to non-organic milk cows called RGB which in essence makes a cow a "milking machine."

5) Humane treatment of animals... chickens are free-roaming, cows graze in grassy pasture, it's an all around "more pleasant" environment for the animals who in turn reward you with great tasting eggs or milk.

6) Better for the environment... Think about pesticides. No pesticides would mean no residues washed into water basins, no contaminating of waterways, which in turn would decrease the cost to control pesticides in the municipal water supply, etc. There are many other reasons too, reduction in CO2...

7) Taste... There is definitely a difference. Want a quick test to prove this? Go buy a bottle of regular ketchup and compare to organic ketchup. You'll notice how much darker and richer the organic is vs. its conventional counterpart.

Every day, new forms of cancer are detected... or heart problems... or respiratory problems. Health problems will continue to plague our society for many years to come & many predict they'll only get worse. Some point the finger at the foods we routinely eat, while others blame our lifestyle. Who's right? Who's wrong? The answer resides in your personal beliefs. The question is... next time you see a crop duster fly overhead and drop a sheet of white mist on a perfectly green field, will you ignore it?

Come on... Treat yourself right!
