Each fall, pumpkins roll themselves cross country to Sussex County, Delaware. At this grand pumpkin gathering, their owners chunk them through man-made contraptions in a great pumpkin distance competition.

As with any competitive event, you’ll find among the pumpkins those going for the victory and well … the care-lessors. Much to the frustration of their owners, these “less ambitious” pumpkins (upon their launch), somehow ignore the laws of gravity & linger in the lower layer of our coastal stratosphere, never to be seen again. Occasionally you’ll spot something small & circular in the sky (it’s quite peculiar to see) … it’s them, floating around, carefree, catching a nap on passing clouds.

Toiling one afternoon over a batch of cranberry breakfast cookies, I stepped outside and begged to the skies to show me a sign. What were we missing? Then it landed … SPLAT!
